FC Instructions and Tips for Use

The FC Female Condom in place The FC Female Condom is worn by women during sex. It can help prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS (HIV infection). When to Use the FC Female Condom

The FC Female Condom can be inserted up to 8 hours before sex. However, most women insert it between 2 and 20 minutes before sex.
Remove the FC Female Condom after sex and before you stand up. It is for one-time use only. Use a new FC for each sex act.
It is important to practice putting in the FC Female Condom without having sex, so that you will be able to use it correctly when you do have sex. As you practice, take your time. Get familiar with FC's different shape and the way it looks. Notice how it hangs outside the vagina. This illustration shows an FC Female Condom in place.

Find a comfortable position. Try standing with one foot up on a chair, or sit with knees apart, or lie down.
Be sure the inner ring is at the bottom, closed end of the pouch.
If you wish, add a drop of lubricant to the closed end outside tip of the pouch or to the outside ring for extra comfort before you insert FC Female Condom.

Hold the pouch with the open end hanging down. While holding the outside of the pouch, squeeze the inner ring with your thumb and middle finger.
Place your index finger between the thumb and middle finger and keep squeezing the inner ring.

Still squeezing FC Female Condom with your three fingers, with your other hand spread the lips.

Note: Take your time. If it is slippery to insert, let it go and start over.

Now, push the inner ring and the pouch the rest of the way up into the vagina with your index finger.
Important: Check to make sure the inner ring is up just past the pubic bone. You will feel the pubic bone by curling your index finger when it is a couple of inches inside the vagina.
Make sure FC Female Condom is inserted straight (not twisted) into the vagina.
How the Female Condom should look How the FC Should Look

When the FC Female Condom is inserted correctly, about one inch of the open end of the FC stays outside your body. This may look unusual, but the part of FC Female Condom that stays outside the vagina helps protect you and your partner during sex. Once the penis enters, the vagina will expand, so less FC Female Condom will extend outside the vagina.

Until you and your partner become comfortable with the FC Female Condom, use your hand to guide his penis into your vagina. After two or three times, you will become so used to the FC Female Condom that you'll hardly notice the sheath or the outer ring during sex. For added comfort, you may want to put more lubricant either inside or outside the FC Female Condom or directly on the penis.

You may notice that FC Female Condom moves around during sex. Movement of the outside ring from side to side is normal.
Sometimes the FC Female Condom may slip up and down in the vagina, riding on the penis. If you notice that the FC Female Condom is slipping like this, put more lubricant on the penis or inside the condom.
If you begin to feel the outer ring being pushed into the vagina, STOP. Or, if the penis starts to enter underneath or beside the sheath, STOP. Take out the FC Female Condom. Put in a NEW FC Female Condom and put extra lubricant on the open end of the condom or on the penis. Make sure the part of the condom that is outside the vagina lies over the lips of the vagina.
Do not flush the FC Female Condom in a toilet. Do not re-use the FC Female Condom.

Remember:

  • Use the FC Female Condom every time you have sex.
  • Use a new FC Female Condom for each sex act.
  • Follow the directions carefully.
  • Do not remove the FC Female Condom's inner ring.
  • Do not use the FC Female Condom and a male condom at the same time.
  • Do not tear the FC Female Condom.
  • Use more lubricant if needed.


Use more lubricant if:

  • The penis does not move freely in and out.
  • There is noise during sex.
  • You feel the FC Female Condom when it is in place.
  • The FC Female Condom slips out of the vagina during use.
Remove the FC Female Condom and put in a new one if:

  • The FC Female Condom rips or tears during insertion or use.
  • The outer ring is pushed inside the vagina.
  • The penis enters outside the condom.
  • The FC Female Condom bunches up inside the vagina.
  • You have sex again.
